Cala Violina

Cala Violina

Situated within the Bandite di Scarlino nature reserve, Cala Violina is certainly better known than its nearby beaches of Cala Martina and Cala Civette, which stretch along the coast from Puntone di Scarlino towards the beaches of Punta Ala. Its reputation and the peculiar violin-like sound coming from the trodden sand make it a very popular destination during the summer, often leading to overcrowding of the beach. Cala Violina is easily reached from the road that connects Puntone to Castiglione della Pescaia, where you can leave your car in the large car park (for a charge) and then cross the woodland for two kilometres until you reach the beach. Otherwise you can leave your car at the end of the Puntone marina and then take the panoramic walking/cycle path for two kilometres to Cala Martina, and then another two kilometres to Cala Violina. Remember that there are no facilities such as bars or restaurants in these areas or on the beaches, so take everything you need for the day.
